Wow arent we being spoiled with English subs today, first Doupo Cangqiong and now this

yourmom420 • 2 years ago

aren't you forgetting Wu Shen Zhu Zai , Against the Sky Supreme . Wu Shang Shen Di . Jiu Tain Yuan Di Jue all great animes

Dase • 2 years ago

Firstly those donghua put onto this site AFTER my post, I cant write about something that didnt exist at the time of my post

Secondly, please do not put Wu Shang Shen Di on the same tier as Fanren or Doupo Cangqiong, it is mediocre, MC gets beaten and loses his entire power base at least three times, and he loses his wives multiple times AND while his wives are missing he goes off to find other wives so please dont, just dont

I mean if you like the donghua by all means, that is your choice, nothing wrong about liking it, I just find it mediocre

Against the Sky Supreme, I can agree with you, it is pretty good but there is a lot of plot armor in there
Wu Shen Zhu Zai, havent watched it and havent read the novel if it exists, cant remember why I didnt
Jiu Tian Yuan Di (gogoanime spelt it incorrectly), havent watched it, in my to watchlist

The following is from douban, which is kind of like imdb, it has over 200 million users that rates movies, series, donghua, manhua, novels, any form of media
First rating is the douban rating, score out of 10, the second one is readers/viewers rating, score out of 5 stars

Wu Shen Zhu Zai current season - not rated / 1.5
Wu Shen Shang Di season 1 - not rated / 2.8
Wu Shen Shang Di season 2 - not rated / 3.5 ⬅️
Fanren season 1 - 7.9 / 4.0
Fanren season 2 - 8.8 / 4.5 ⬅️
Against the Sky Supreme - not rated / 2.5
Doupo Cangqiong - San Nian Zhi Yue - 9.0 / 4.5 ⬅️
Soul Land season 1 - 7.3 / 3.5
Soul Land season 2 - 7.7 / 4.0

edit reason: sounded too aggressive, not my intention and added rating statistics

If you want to read Wu Shen Zhu Zai you must type Valkyrie Domination. Go to either Novelvice or WNMTL. I suggest WNMTL for novelvice the English translation is lousy.

Dase • 2 years ago

It's fine, I can read it on Chinese webnovel sites, at the moment I am reading Wanmei Shijie (Perfect World) I stopped reading the English translated one when I read "stupefied" a few times, when all the translator needed to use was either shocked or stunned lol, cant really blame the translator, I usually blame the editor, but sadly in this instance the translator is also the editor

Wu Shen Zhu Zai is actually good, just not the CGI but the character is well rounded in my opinion. He isn’t necessarily a good guy but he isn’t bad either I guess. He is a reincarnation. If you haven’t watched it yet I definitely recommend it.

curazon • 2 years ago

no offense bro but i think you(people in general) give fanren excess points cause up till no even though the show has been just above average in all fields but there not structure at all, the guy has no goal and at this point I m wondering tf is even happening in the show, a huge ass war is going on but he leaves on receiving orders, girl gets kidnapped but he leaves her as is doesn't even think about it once, he doesn't have the mc charm he just seems like a ordinary dude surviving by avoiding troubles cause he has no goal at all and just keeps going from places to places, in my opinion if you think about it fanren is way too overrated, i was expecting it to be much better cause people compared it to doupo cangqiong and soul land, but i m soo disappointed right now, especially after how you and hyped some other people hyped up this show in the comments

None taken, you are entitled to your own opinions just as others are. I remember how you once replied to one of my post about donghua not following the novel etc etc, this is one of those novel that doesnt follow the novel closely, it jumps around and made quite a lot of changes. The novel itself is very very boring and slow paces. It isnt the typical cultivation novel where the main character powers up insanely and starts defeats everyone with just their little pinky finger, the main character is cautious, strategic and practical, in the novel he is selfish, callous at times, and sometimes coerce people to do what he wants, one might call it blackmail, but the donghua changed him so that the audience can sympathise with him, which in my own opinion is a good thing.

The donghua's title is actually translated as A Record of a Mortal is Journey to Immortality, it is kind of like a progress diary of a simple and like you said an ordinary guy who tries to obtain immortality in this world. Again this is nothing like Doupo Cangqiong or Daoluo Dalu, the main character is a loner, prefers to have freedom, not rely one anyone. He strives to attain immortality is because he doesnt wish to die, he will form tactics and prepare as much as he can before he fights. My opinions you have read is probably those that I commented are the fighting scenes and the way the story is presented in the donghua. You have to admit the fight scenes are top notch and the story while it isnt to everyone's liking, I prefer it to the novel. This series is currently sitting on 9.7 ratings on bilibili video streaming, so it must be doing something right. Doupo Cangqiong fluctuates between 7.8 - 9.4 with the recent special at 9.4 and season 4 at 9.1, Douluo Dalu is at 9.5

I am not going to convince you how good or bad it is, like I said you are entitled to your opinions just as others are, others might be able to add more to the discussion Youtube Addict and douluo Feel free to post your opinions on future episodes, there might be people who will agree with you

curazon • 2 years ago

It's just that maybe I expected it to be much more thrilling like doupo s5 battles but I forgot that this is just the s2 maybe there's much more to come now lets see

curazon • 2 years ago

I mean i guess u have a point, now that I realize maybe I didn't really get the story much beacuse I like it when the mc socializes and makes more allies and friends and I didn't get that here, but I also like of how cautious and not overpowered he his I like that struggle and that's the interesting part.

Dase • 2 years ago

Mhm, like I mentioned before, this donghua/novel isnt the average typical ones you see where the main character gets OP and starts to beat everyone in sight or have plot armour at ever turn, Han Li is just a simple guy who works hard to get to where he is. Not a lot of people like this kind of story, they prefer main characters who gets power fast, gets all the girls they want, this is one of the few that doesnt follow that cultivation style of story. A lot of people like the fight scenes, since it is animated very well. Again, Han Li is a loner, prefers to be that way because he felts emotional attachment will slow down or affect his cultivation (with the exception of Nangong Wan, he cant forget about her and someone else, but that is in a few years time when we get to see that person) also because of what happened when he started out as a cultivator, he was used by his master, lost his friend, then he was betrayed a by a group of thieves, this makes him wary of forming real friendship, I am not trying to convince you to like this donghua, just to give you a background on the differences between this donghua and others.

Doupo Cangqiong specials - Three Year agreement is just the fight scenes, season 5 when it comes out will be back to more storytelling with some fight scenes similar to season 4, you cant really compare a special with a proper season. (Doupo Cangqiong is actually one of my favourite novels and Fanren isnt lol so I am not being biased) There will be a lot of fight scenes in episodes 22 - 24, but sometimes I like to take a break from fighting scenes, so this is a change for me, to see someone normal being able to walk the cultivation path all on his own strength
Give it a go, if you still dont like it then by all means drop it

Dase • 2 years ago

And he doesnt care about the girl, since he is being forced to marry her, he's got an eye on someone else. Again this falls on what I mentioned before, he is very cool-headed, careful and strategic, he will not do something that will jeopardise his life, so the best way for him is to report back to his master and let them deal with it. Yes he avoids trouble and fight whenever he can, he values his life afterall, I wouldnt say he is a coward, but he prefers to live. The story is just establishing itself, his spiritual roots (cultivation base) is the worse out of most of the cultivators, it means he will find it hard and very slow to reach each cultivation level, and unlike most novels or donghua, each cultivation realm gives you a certain amount of lifespan, and so if you dont break into the next level by XX amount of time, you die, so he is sent on missions and sometimes these missions will lead to events outside his control, like the girl being kidnapped.
The series just started, and this season you have just watched is around chapter 325ish, the entire novel is 2455, it is up to you if you want to continue watching or not, the story isnt to everyone's taste, so far most posts I have read have praised the series like the ones I pinged and Aerlis Ambrosius , there are some that doesnt like this series, but those are very little, of course we have people who doesnt post anything at all

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

I see where you're coming from because that was exactly my thought when I first started. The only reason, I didn't drop it was mainly due to its high animation quality and superb fight scenes. Being the curious me, I started checking out the novel and the donghua production team after the first season. To my surprise, they actually use motion capture for their fight scenes. They hired stuntmen and choreographed every single action and movement.

I was really impressed at that time because no one expected an unknown donghua series in China would invest in something like that. Even in Hollywood, not every animated film does that.

Then I started reading the novel. Just as Dase said, the novel is very very boring. I think I gave up after 30+ chapters. But I continued to watch review videos, stalk fans forum just to better understand the story. Even till now, I'm not very impressed with the story (novel). It's just too linear and one-sided. I prefer reading story where the MC is more proactive instead of having everything laid out for him. Certainly Han Li is not having it easy, his cultivation path is slow and arduous, at times it's even too tedious for non-Chinese speakers like me to understand. Up till now, I still don't understand all the different cultivation stages. But the things he does is not exactly "making history" either. In other words, his achievement is rather insignificant. Honestly, if it was not for the exceptional donghua, I'd never invest my time on such a story.

But, despite the mundanity of the story, the donghua somehow managed to present it in a vivid and compelling way. Sometimes, the pace may be a bit lagging but it always managed to hook you on with its fight scenes. The MC is also portrayed in a more relatable and likeable manner. It not only has excellent graphic and animation but it also has depth and layers especially in the last few episodes. Although the finale was rather tame by comparison, it is deep and profound. The characters show emotional complexity and vulnerability. This in my opinion is excellent storytelling. The scriptwriter and the production team managed to turn a bland and insipid novel into something impressive and impactful. That alone deserves some credits.

In regards to cultivation levels, the older martial arts hero novels didnt have any, it their martial arts that had levels, that merely shows the higher the level, the more powerful the martial art is. It's only recent (as in the past 30 years) that cultivation novels really started to have characters with cultivation levels, I guess this stems from RPGs where characters have level as they get stronger, so you can equate cultivation levels like you would in a RPG, each level will open up new skills or abilities

Cultivation novels, can be classified into several categorgies -

Wuxia (武俠 wuxia) – literally means Martial Heroes or Martial Arts Heroes, they are stories about ordinary people who can achieve supernatural fighting ability through martial arts training and Qi cultivation

Xianxia (仙侠 xianxia) – literally means Immortal Heroes, they are stories featuring magic, demons, ghosts, immortals/deities, with heavy influences from Chinese folklore/mythology. The main characters cultivate to becomes stronger and also in the process cultivate to Immortality, seeking eternal life and the pinnacle of strength, these stories are often heavily influenced by Daoisim and or Buddhism

(If you were to compare Wuxia and Xianxia, Wuxia would be like Bewitched, I dream of Jeannie and Harry Potter while Xianxia would be Lord of the Rings trilogy)

Xuanhuan (玄幻 xuanhuan) – literally means Mysterious Fantasy This is a broad genre of stories which mixes Chinese folklore/mythology with foreign elements & settings, this is similar to Xianxia, but without the Daoism or Buddhist element. Examples of these are Doupo Cangqiong, Wudong Qiankun

Dase • 2 years ago

This is one of the few titles that I prefer the donghua over the novel lol
The first episode impressed me enough so I went and read the novel, I was bored and slo after halfway and skipped chapters just to get to the part where Nangong Wan appears, and there wasnt many chapters about her and then the ending, had me almost throw my laptop out the window, I hate endings where they leave their loved ones behind and go to the next realm alone, just like Tunshi Xingkong and in a small way Wanmei Shijie The studio did a very good job of adapting the novel into donghua, can it be even more better? perhaps, but I am happy with the current work
I only found out a few months ago that there was a sequel to the novel, and I began to read that, again, was boring... BUT Nangong Wan is with him at the end AND they have, well heavily implied, a daughter however even that is not enough to make me read the novel twice lol I only read it when I want to go to sleep lol

Bro if you want to live long in a chaotic world like that you have to use your brain by strategizing make sure you avoid trouble as much as you can so don’t blame him for being careful and thinking with his brain but the only thing I don’t really like is the fact that after he left his home he didn’t even show up infront of his parents and younger sister which is kind of lame to me

yourmom420 • 2 years ago

if you haven't watched Wu Shen Zhu Zai you should immediately it's a master piece. Doupo Cangqiong 3rd season was complete crap watched about half of it then never picked it up again. anyone who says the 3rd season was good is just delusional. also for Wu Shen Shang Di never read the manga but so far the anime has been good. yes I can agree Against the Sky Supreme has a lot of plot armor. what do you mean all of the new episodes of the anime I mentioned came out the same day as this lmao Against the Sky Supreme ep 57 might have came out after 12am not to sure

Dase • 2 years ago

When I posted "Wow arent we being spoiled with English subs today, first Doupo Cangqiong and now this" the new episodes of the donghuas you mentioned were released on this site after my post

So I dont understand what you keep on saying it came out on the same day when they were released AFTER my post, as I said I cannot account for things that I am not aware of, at the time of my post, Doupo Cangqiong and Fanren was out, the others were not, could be you live in a different timezone than me, but regardless those episodes you mentioned came after my post

People are entitled to what they like and not like, I am only stating my opinion on how I feel about what I like and not, and I am not going to name call people just because they have a different opinion on what they like or not
Yes season 3 of Doupo Cangqiong was draggy and the pacing was pretty bad, I read the novel so I have a better understanding as to what and why things happen that way in the donghua. but I like the story and I dont expect the studio to skip that part of the story because there wasnt that many fight scenes
I prefer the novels over the manhua since it is the original source, the manhua is targeted towards the younger audience and some of the original content is removed

I assume user ratings are out of 5? Soul land is about 6-7/10 at times, especially the beginning but those arcs where they fight hardcore its 10/10 so epic.
Whats season 2? there is only one anime?!

Dase • 2 years ago

For some reason Soul Land is split into 2 seasons, the 1- 26 and then we have season 2, 1 to current 164 but Tencent for some reason treats it as one whole season 1 to 190
Yes, users rated out of 5
There are many reasons for the low rating during the first season, the 3D graphics werent as good as the current one, 7ish rating on douban is quite while high viewers ratings are always subjective, you get some who would rate 1 star and others 4 stars

In comparison to Doupo Cangqiong normal seasons rate around 7.1 - 7.8, they are pretty solid ratings, given that these two donghuas are quite popular in China
Fanren's rating is better, because of the highly realistic motion captures of the characters. (while if you look at Soul Land, the way they walk is kind of like weird, kind of like they are swagger half drunk sometimes) and the story is aimed at mature audiences, it is a lot darker and not your typical main character comes off as OP, wins every fight, plot armor everywhere and harem galore

Dase • 2 years ago

I went to their official streaming sites and the following were their score made by their viewers:

Wu Shen Zhu Zai Tencent - 7.8
Wu Shen Shang Di season 2 - Tencent 7.8
Fanren season 2 - bilibili 9.6 / 5 stars
Against the Sky Supreme - Tencent 7.7
Doupo Cangqiong - San Nian Zhi Yue - Tencent 9.4
Soul Land - 7.1 / - Tencent 9.4
Wanmei Shijie - Tencent 9.1

Again, the ratings shows Wu Shen Shang Di cannot be compared on the same tier as Doupo Cangqiong and Fanren season 2

And of course, viewers ratings are always subjective, one can score 10 out 10 while others might score 1 out of 10, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and what they like or not, I happen not to like it after reading the novel where Mu Chen gets beaten, loses his power base, friends and wives for the third time and becomes a horny sex addict, it started to feel the author was being repetitive

Good episode, about to get intense soon!!

Customer Service • 2 years ago

these shows are too short

Dase • 2 years ago

But we are going to get 52 episodes this season 😁

Customer Service • 2 years ago

That's true, I hope the shows are paced nice enough to get to the good stuff.

Dase • 2 years ago

They have made quite a lot of changes, but the essential contents are still based off the novels, example, Han Li was supposed to encounter the the old man and his grand daughter at the banquet and not at the streets, and he actually blackmails them for the method to conceal the Qi aura
But from what I can tell it seems to be working at a nice pace, the novel is far more long-winded and slow paced, I had to skip chapters just to read Han Li and Nangong Wan being together 1000s of chapters skipped by the way 🤣 then I returned back to where I was originally
We are currently around chapter 294 (the donghua seems to be combining roughly 5 chapters when it makes changes) out of 2455, so it would mean 16 years minus this year and last year season, so 14 years to finish

Customer Service • 2 years ago

Oh jeez :D Thank you for letting me know, in that case the show does seem like it's going in a nie pacing.

RohanOf ElvenPower • 2 years ago

that will last most of the year at this pace :)

The art style of this show kinda remind me of K.I.N.G the moive a lil.
